Everyone loves getting a new bike, but sometimes that's just not in the cards. Maybe you've got a senimental attachment to your old road bike, but it just isn't as comfortable as it once was.
In some cases, we can breathe new life into your trusty old steed. Some of the things we can do:
Higher Handlebars- A longer quill stem (those still really do exist) can get the bars up to a comfortable height. Sometimes this is all that's needed!
Wider bars- The bars on most older bikes were pretty darn narrow.
Re-position shifters- Get 'em off the downtube, and on to the bar ends.
Downsize the wheels- Yes! A smaller wheel (either 27"-700, or 700-650b) will allow for a wider tire. Wider tires=more comfort!
Longer reach brakes- To reach those smaller wheels.
If this sounds interesting to you, the next step is to bring in your bike. We can tell you what we think the best course of action would be.
Here's an example of a bike that got all of the above. It was transformed from a bike that seldom was ridden, to one that is useful, comfortable and fun!
